Tip 7: Treat FX Like InstrumentsįX, especially time-based effects like delay, phaser, flanger, and reverb, can drastically alter a sound beyond the original signal.Ī lot of these FX processors can be used both rhythmically and tonally, allowing you to get chord-like textures that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. If you’re wanting more, use a synth such as FM8 by Native Instruments. Most common DAWs have an FM synth built-in – Operator in Ableton Live, Sytrus in FL Studio and EFM1 in Logic Pro X. Ableton’s Operator is a simple yet effective FM Synth Synths like Serum have some FM capabilities, but to get really into it you’ll want a dedicated FM synth. If you’re making bass music, you can get some sick growls and basses from it. Working in audio allows you to see what you’re doing at every point in time, and opens up the possibility Tip 6: Learn FM SynthesisįM Synthesis isn’t necessary to learn in order to make great sounds, but it sure can help you make a wider variety of sounds. Ableton Live – Wavetable (similar to Serum but different workflow)Įver heard some big-name producer drop a tip like ‘working in audio is better’?.Use another synth, like the 5 that probably came with your DAW that you’ve never touched. Use the least sources necessary to achieve the sound you’re going for. Why? Because the more complex the sound, the better, right? I remember when I first got Massive that the best sounds had to use all 3 oscillators. Nasty resonances in the high-mids? Smash them (or at least, control them).ĭevices like OTT are also great for this. The Pixelmator team also says it has improved support for Motion projects. Video can be exported as MP4 files, QuickTime movies, animated GIFs, or PNGs. You can adjust brightness, exposure, colors, and other aspects of a clip, apply filters, crop your video, overlay text, and more. Other than that, video layers work just like other layers. Also, a three-dot ‘more’ button reveals a scrubber with clip trimming controls and other advanced options when clicked. Peakto is also available directly from CYME.Įditing a video isn’t much different from working with still images, except you’ll notice playback controls at the bottom of the clip you’re editing for controlling sound and playing back the clip. Will the Better Homes and Gardens do a 2-D face on elevation with height and width dimensions? When I got started in 93 my father gave me Chief Architect and it was limited then. If you want easy to learn CAD I would suggest looking at DeltaCad or Punch ViaCad. With TurboCad you can draw anything but you have to draw every line, just as you would with a pencil. Only the full blown Chief Architect will let you get anywhere near the 3D quality of e-Cabinets though. They are based on Chief Architect and even the low end programs will layout a room and let you add cabinets. There is nothing better for creating customer layouts than e-Cabinets but you might want to look into some of the Better Homes and Gardens design software. I am not an expert, and I do not know what you are trying to do, but I don’t think you are looking for a straight CAD program, that in itself is a large learning curve and not cabinet specific. I can’t imagine any software being easier if your just looking for presentations and dimensions. In all respect, what is it exactly that you are trying to draw in e-Cabs that is frustrating you? I was up and running after one weekend well enough to produce basic layouts with dimensions. I know there are programs such as KCDW and others but I don't have a CNC and don't need that much of a program. I spent years learning the software and still don't know all of the ins and outs. Is this any good? All I need is to see the kitchen layout with dimensions, same as when I draw a kitchen on graph paper to scale. I was just in Staples and saw a cheap CAD software program that was called TurboCAD for under $100. If I don't need cutlists and so forth what other programs could I use that will not break the bank. I have a pretty good sized job coming up where I used eCabinets and keep running into small issues that seem to take forever to resolve and I don't have the time. I have been using eCabs for awhile now and mostly use it for design and certain other uses. If you’re using the internet for more than 30 minutes a day (the equivalent to 500MB of data), t hen you should consider upgrading to Hotspot Shield’s elite version. On top of this, I find that Hotspot Shield’s free version also runs quite slowly and limits the number of virtual locations you can connect with. This means you can’t stream movies or TV shows, download torrent files, or upload any photos or videos onto social media. You’ll only be able to lightly surf the internet, or risk running over the allocated 500MB of free data per day. Hotspot Shield is one of the best free VPNs out there - but there is a catch. Notably, the season begins with an episode that contains the last known interview with George Holliday, who filmed King’s beating at the hands of the officers. Riots, Anderson brings listeners back into the ’90s, unpacking the six days of unrest that engulfed Los Angeles after four LAPD officers were acquitted in 1992 for their brutal beating of Rodney King during a traffic stop, despite video evidence. With Here Lies Me, and supported by producer Hannah Boomershine, Frank gets to parlay her earned wisdom into a whole new genre. Whether or not she’ll be able to sustain that throughout the series as it grows in stakes and complexity will be the thing to watch.įrank is perhaps best known in the audio world as the creator and host of The Longest Shortest Time, a podcast born out of the pre- Serial era that was notable for the way it took parenting as a serious subject of inquiry, narrative, and humor. It’s a delicate balance, and based on the first two installments, she seems to be walking the line pretty well. Frank overtly wraps the story toward a bundle of weighty topics - the show’s description contains a hefty aside that doubles as a disclaimer: “ Here Lies Me contains themes of harassment, classism, sexism, racism, trauma, consent, and finding your voice” - and does so in a manner that’s light but not unserious. Here Lies Me clearly has a lot on its mind. She shoulders the bulk of the narrative responsibility and largely succeeds. (A benefit of age and relative anonymity, probably.) Ollie Grishaber, in particular, who plays Noa, is reason enough to check out this series. Here Lies Me is fun and fantastically written, and Frank’s choice to cast teenage actors from the High School for the Performaning and Visual Arts in Houston in the primary roles really pays off. I’ve only had access to the first two episodes, and let me tell ya, I loved what I heard. Noa is perturbed by the situation, and when she’s looped into a secret club made up of former targets of God’s obsessions, she takes the opportunity to plot revenge. The story follows Noa as she navigates the battlefield of eighth grade, which kicks off with a boy, who calls himself “God,” declaring his (possessive) love for her, antagonizing a guy she kinda-sorta likes, and causing her to be pushed out from her friend group due to the excess of his attentions. The same applies to 13-year-old Noa, a riot grrrl in the making who serves as the protagonist of this new YA fiction podcast created by Hillary Frank and published by Lemonada Media. So I had to accept that and deal with it in order to see the Wilkies as people. As you probably know, either based on personal experience or a recollection from someone with a much less peaceful childhood than you, middle school can be hell. “I wanted to show that if people have this deeply held belief that life begins with conception, then of course the ultimate outcome is that they will think abortion is wrong. The second episode investigates the pro-life movement, which grew out of the work of Catholic power couple John and Barbara Wilkie. The podcast looks at both sides of the debate. And for her to be charged with manslaughter is an example of why these laws are so problematic.” She was doing it for her own health and for her autonomy. “She wasn’t making a stand for political reasons. “It amazed me that despite facing jail time, she wouldn’t tell the police the name of the doctor who performed the abortion,” says Matthews. There was some talk in the AMD dev forums about supporting this directly on the card complete with an built-in USB3.1 port. I'm just wondering if anybody's written bridge code to support this. I imagine it won't be because the kernel won't recognize it if it isn't on the PCI bus (?). I'll plug in an old GPU to see if it's recognized. I'm waiting on one of the riser cards, now. Western Digital blue 1TB 7.2k rpm HDD - $45 on Amazon I definitely recommend a thorough cleaning with compressed air before putting a used GPU under load. For the GPU, the GTX 980 or AMD R9 280 are about $100 used on eBay and generally rank pretty well on project stats. The single-CPU motherboards here are all ATX, while the duals are eATX. (/EDIT)Ĭraigslist is a great place to buy a computer case for cheap ($50 buys plenty on my local CL) since gamers parting out old builds often include power supplies and case fans. eBay prices are currently ~ $20 / 4GB module. The table below overviews what each supports, with links to additional requirements.Īlternatively, if you aren’t tech-inclined, you could look for 4GB sticks of DDR3 RDIMM, either 1333 or 1600 MHz (since e5 processors don’t exceed that anyway), “ECC Registered” if your board requires it. The motherboards listed here all use 240-pin DDR3, but vary slightly on what is supported. (EDIT) For RAM, 8GB is more than enough for BOINC, but I’d recommend 16GB if you plan on using your rig for general use. Graphics cards and RAM are outrageously expensive at the moment, so buying used is worth considering. STEP 4: Stuff to buy used: case, RAM, GPU $100+ Both Western Digital and Seagate have reasonably-priced 1TB 7200 rpm hard drives, which should be more than sufficient for mining. Spending $30-$75 on Corsair, EVGA, or Rosewill should serve you well.įor cooling, I personally like either the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo for $30 on Amazon or if you’re feeling fancy, a Cosair H100i AIO water-cooling for $63 refurbished on Newegg. 80+ Gold and 80+ Silver are more energy efficient, but running costs won’t differ considerably over bronze. STEP 3: Stuff to buy new: Cooling, Storage, Power Supply $60-$100įor the power supply, 550W to 650W is fine (adding ~100w for every graphics card you plan to add). Also, it looks like Dell uses a proprietary power supply, so you’ll likely need an OE PSU if you choose their boards. If anyone wants to help confirm which version goes with what mobo, I'd be happy to update this. If buying a Lenovo board, refer to the machine type. NOTES: I’ve found it particularly difficult to confirm which Lenovo boards are v1 and which are v2. The downside to most x79 configurations is that the motherboard is eye-wateringly expensive, but the good news is that buying used OE motherboards is significantly cheaper. STEP TWO: Find a compatible motherboard $75 - $125 Pretty much any e5 26xx CPU performs well and goes for less than $100 used. v1 and v2 chips are not interchangeable on all x79 motherboards. NOTES: the version you pick is important. Xeon x79 CPUs are incredibly powerful and go for next to nothing on eBay. My plan is to do a write-up on an Intel build, then add an AMD one later. The good news is that ~$450 can build a machine with tons of power. The idea here being to squeeze as much horsepower as possible from a relatively small investment since Gridcoin’s value is still tentative. I’ve seen a few posts asking about building an ideal Gridcoin/BOINC rig, and seeing as I'm about to build one myself, I thought I’d put together a little guide on building a budget cruncher. I feel Melinda's line of weapons is just a tad shorter than Akiga's weapons. That is coming from someone who has played the hell out of the entire series. Once you learn how to properly "Pull" and "push" while enemies are blocking, nothing is going to be difficult for you. I'm prettysure another Npc named "Kogure" has almost the same type of reach on his weapon, but Melinda's is still the best weapon in terms of "Reach" for a sword.īut it basically comes down to the mechanics of the game. I personally love her weapon (The Centurion) probably one of, if not my most favorite Swords in Way of the Samurai 4, the length/reach alone is enough for me. My personal opinion though, I'd aim to kill an NPC called "Melinda" her weapon by far has the longest reach for swords in the game, it's almost on par with that of the reach of a spear. If you manage to kill a "Special Character", ones with Blue/Red/White Names above their heads, their weapons automatically start of with sub-par stats on "Easy" mode, these in my opinion, are the weapons you should aim to upgrade. However, easy mode is definitely one of the better ways to go. Basically if you can get the "Pushing" and or "Pulling" mechanic down, Normal mode is going to be a cakewalk for you regardless of your weapon(s). I personally on the Console version started off on Normal mode, didn't have much difficulties due to playing the previous Way of The Samurai games. Most of the tips given are simply start on "Easy" mode, and find a weapon which you like, and or style which you like, then proceed to upgrade the weapon from the blacksmith. However the NPC's in normal mode carry exceptional weapons. Basically "Easy" mode hands out crappy weapons, Normal mode has people worth challenging, but a lot of people dont' "Recommend" it.
